Intrafusal muscle fiber histochemistry following its motor reinnervation.
نویسنده
چکیده
Extrafusab muscle fibers maintain uniform structural and histochemical characteristics over their entire length (4). This is unlike the behavior of intrafusal muscle fibers in mammalian muscle spindles that display regional structural and histochemical differences along the fiber length as shown by Banks et al. (1) and Kucera (8). In this study it has been noted that some intrafusal muscle fibers may become morphologically and histochemicalby abnormal in the course of muscle spindle motor reinnervation and the abnormalities may concern only focal fiber regions.

Myosin heavy chain composition of muscle spindles in human biceps brachii.
Data on the myosin heavy chain (MyHC) composition of human muscle spindles are scarce in spite of the well-known correlation between MyHC composition and functional properties of skeletal muscle fibers. The MyHC composition of intrafusal fibers from 36 spindles of human biceps brachii muscle was studied in detail by immunocytochemistry with a large battery of antibodies. The MyHC content of iso...
متن کاملRegeneration of reinnervated rat soleus muscle is accompanied by fiber transition toward a faster phenotype.
The functional recovery of skeletal muscles after peripheral nerve transection and microsurgical repair is generally incomplete. Several reinnervation abnormalities have been described even after nerve reconstruction surgery. Less is known, however, about the regenerative capacity of reinnervated muscles. Previously, we detected remarkable morphological and motor endplate alterations after indu...
متن کاملUse it or Lose It: Tonic Activity of Slow Motoneurons Promotes Their Survival and Preferentially Increases Slow Fiber-Type Groupings in Muscles of Old Lifelong Recreational Sportsmen
Histochemistry, immuno-histochemistry, gel electrophoresis of single muscle fibers and electromyography of aging muscles and nerves suggest that: i) denervation contributes to muscle atrophy, ii) impaired mobility accelerates the process, and iii) lifelong running protects against loss of motor units. Recent corroborating results on the muscle effects of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) ...
متن کاملReinnervation of muscle fiber types in the newborn rat soleus.
We have examined the selectivity of reinnervation of fiber types in rat soleus muscle denervated by crush of the soleus nerve 2 d after birth. The fibers innervated by single, regenerated motor axons were identified by use of glycogen depletion approximately 2 weeks following denervation. The types of fibers were determined by immunohistochemistry employing anti-myosin antibodies and, in some c...
متن کاملMuscle spindles in the deep muscles of the human neck: a morphological and immunocytochemical study.
Muscle spindle density is extremely high in the deep muscles of the human neck. However, there is a paucity of information regarding the morphology and immunoreactivity of these muscle spindles. The objective of this study was to investigate the intrafusal fiber content and to assess the myosin heavy chain (MyHC) composition of muscle spindles from human deep neck muscles. In addition to the co...
